Quetzaltenango is served by a system of city buses and microbuses (small vans). A taxi from Minerva Spanish School to the city center (Parque Central) costs around U.S. $3. Microbuses, which pass by Minerva school every few minutes, costs about fifteen cents.
The public bus station is a short walking distance from the school, as are the major commercial centers and traditional open-air markets. Public buses, also known as “Chicken Buses”, depart Minerva Bus station, and travel to local area destinations.
